About DTTDS
Most early-stage startup problems are predictable, but the answers aren’t always found in conventional playbooks. Founders and makers have to go above and beyond to recruit new users, delight existing ones, earn referrals, and turn them into loyal paying customers.
Although there are occasional mentions of such tips in articles and interviews, most of that knowledge isn’t organized in an easily discoverable way. After asking maker and founder friends how they learned these hacks, it was clear there wasn’t one simple answer — so this crowdsourced resource was built.
Hat tip to Paul Graham (who coined and popularized the phrase) for the excellent essay Do Things That Don't Scale. The goal of this project is to unearth wisdom from real founders who experimented with unconventional, creative tactics in the hard early days.
Built by Karthik Puvvada (KP / @thisiskp_) — indie maker. The original launch hit #1 on Product Hunt, and the community also showed up strongly on Hacker News (#2).
Feel free to add a hack you came across or personally tried. Thank you!
